How should I adjust the crotch strap?

Answer

Our Safety car seat models typically offer various buckle positions to accommodate your growing baby. Check the car seat instruction manual for your specific Safety 1st car seat to determine how many buckle slots are available for your model and whether there are any restrictions/requirements for use of these slots when installed rear facing vs. forward facing.

General guide to change the position of your buckle on your infant child restraint:

1. Unbuckle harness. Press in on the red button. Pull buckle tongues out.
2. Turn seat over. Locate buckle’s metal retainer on bottom of shell.
3. Rotate metal retainer and push it up through shell and pad.
4. From top of seat, pull buckle out of shell and pad.
5. Insert buckle’s metal retainer into slot closest to your child. Buckle MUST face out.
6. From bottom of seat, pull metal retainer completely through pad and shell.
7. Check buckle. Pull up on buckle to make sure it is secured. The buckle MUST not pull out.

4. Rotate metal retainer and push it up through shell and pad
5. From top of seat, pull buckle and buckle cover out of shell and pad.
6. Insert buckle’s metal retainer into slot closest to child. Buckle MUST face out.
7. Reach under the seat between base and shell and through recline handle. Pull metal retainer completely through pad and shell.
8. Check buckle. Pull up on buckle to make sure it is secured. The buckle MUST not pull out.

NOTE: For various Safety 1st car seat models, you MUST use the 1st or 2nd buckle slots when child restraint is used rear facing. In these cases, any slot can be used when forward facing. See your car seat manual for specific instructions/requirements for buckle use.
